Description

“Foundations: Building a Durable Church” The Rev. Canon Ben Sharpe, Cn Missioner for W. Va. & Appalachia

 Location: Daniel Island, SC.

An introductory workshop for those working to revitalize an existing parish, both lay and clergy, and those considering planting a new one. Canon Ben has been directly involved in multiple Anglican church planting for over 20 years, most recently as Rector of Christ Church in Winston Salem, NC, which he planted in 2008. The day will be an introduction to his experience and great training skills and will introduce his “Foundations” course. This course has become the primary building block for all his missionary work, as a parish revitalizer and church planter.

The Foundations Course is the product of years of research and experience in forming Christians to be faithful disciples in an Anglican context. The fourteen-session course is best described as catechesis into “mere Christianity.” One rector has described Foundations as a “citizenship course for the Kingdom of God.” The structure and content of Foundations “synchs” with the Prayer Book and the Catechism of the ACNA.

While it’s called Foundations, the course is not just for new believers. Life-long disciples and even those who have advanced theological education say that the course has been transformational in their Christian walk. Why? The reason is that the emphasis is not just imparting biblical and doctrinal information but also forming the desires and affections of believers to more deeply love and closely follow Jesus Christ.
